About Rural Strides
My name is Malinka, I created Rural Strides & am an avid walker & lover of the outdoors. Growing up in Devon, Dartmoor will always be my spiritual home. However, having lived & worked overseas for 17 years, the mountains & deserts of the Middle East have also left an indelible imprint. This was particularly so for Oman, where I was fortunate to work for Outward Bound Oman.
In 2020 I came home to Petersfield, Hampshire. With little else to do during lockdown, I grabbed a map, laced up my boots & set myself a challenge to walk all the footpaths & byways within a 10-mile radius of home……& I haven’t stopped walking since.
I was so bowled over by the beauty of the Western Weald I organised the inaugural Petersfield Walking Festival in 2021.
I also now sit on the town’s Active Travel panel; lead walks for Friends of the South Downs; write about walking for various publications; support local conservation & access initiatives; & provide walking-related consultancy. Recognising that qualifications are as important as experience, I am a qualified lowland walk leader, navigator & outdoor first aider (ITC Level 3) as well as member of the Mountain Training Association & British Mountaineering Council.
A passion for walking
You could say walking is a bit of an obsession, but it is a passion that I love to share. Guiding you around the Western Weald is not just about showing you the way but enhancing your experience of this beautiful area every step of the way. A walk with Rural Strides is a way to piece together the interwoven stories of local history; connect with nature; as well as a means to find peace of mind in the great outdoors.
Whether I’m leading you in person or virtually, if you download a walk from this site, I hope you will have confidence in my professional expertise & local knowledge….and know that I will be not be leading you up someone’s garden path!
