Join me for a small group walk into the woods this spring to listen for one of nature’s most extraordinary performers – the Nightingale. Its rich, fluid song carries through the dusk with a quality that feels almost otherworldly and has long been woven into folklore as the voice of love and longing.

We’ll be walking at dusk when nightingales are at their most vocal, and with a little luck you’ll hear this remarkable bird for yourself. For centuries people have found meaning in its song; now it’s hopefully your chance to experience it.

Any idea why I called this walk Bulbul? Clue: there’s a connection between current affairs and somewhere I’ve lived.

  • Preferably no dogs, but well-behaved ones on a short lead are welcome.
  • We will finish not later than 9pm

RURAL STRIDES

Rural Strides is passionate about the rich history and cultural landscape of the Western Weald. Through our engaging guided walks, we bring the land to life. We interpret its stories, uncover its heritage, and reveal the character that makes this corner of the South Downs so special. Along the way, we introduce you to inspiring local businesses, each rooted in the community and landscape we share.

Our aim is simple: to create authentic, memorable experiences that connect you with the place and its people. By the end of a Rural Strides walk, you won’t just have explored the Western Weald, you’ll feel like a local.
