In A Room With A View, Miss Honeychurch has her sheltered English eyes opened to new ideas and unexpected people. On this walk, the aim is simply to open your eyes to the beauty of the Western Weald and the significance of this remarkable view. It is surely one of the National Park’s finest viewpoints, the sort of place Miss Honeychurch’s beau, George Emerson, would have recommended. As he says in the novel “there is only one perfect view — the view of the sky straight over our heads” and to “choose a place where you won’t do very much harm, and stand in it for all you are worth, facing the sunshine.”
This spot more than fulfils both invitations, and it also holds a great local tale. This is not linked to Forster, but to another contemporary literary giant. Join us to discover more!

RURAL STRIDES
Rural Strides is passionate about the rich history and cultural landscape of the Western Weald. Through our engaging guided walks, we bring the land to life. We interpret its stories, uncover its heritage, and reveal the character that makes this corner of the South Downs so special. Along the way, we introduce you to inspiring local businesses, each rooted in the community and landscape we share.
Our aim is simple: to create authentic, memorable experiences that connect you with the place and its people. By the end of a Rural Strides walk, you won’t just have explored the Western Weald, you’ll feel like a local.
