This is a shorter version of the original 8 mile Countess and the Crown route, but we’ll still be walking in the footsteps of a remarkable Tudor noblewoman whose life bridged the Wars of the Roses and Henry VIII’s Reformation – few periods in English history were more dramatic. Her story is one of navigating the delicate balance between deep religious conviction and loyalty to the Crown.

This is a linear walk that traces places connected to the later years of her life. As we move through the landscape, her story will gradually unfold: her family’s changing fortunes and the growing tension between their faith and royal authority. Along the way we’ll see how personal belief, royal power and political danger were closely intertwined in Tudor England, and played out right here on our doorstep.

  • Several toilet opportunities en route, as well as a stop for refreshments.
  • Well-behaved dogs on leads welcome

LOGISTICS: With this being a linear walk, there are logistics to plan. Fortunately they are very straight forward – we will take the train one way.
