A Room With A View
Do you ever avoid walking in unfamiliar places because you fear getting lost, or stick to the same routes, never daring to explore further? Whether you’re planning to wander the streets of Florence or discover more of your own backyard, basic map-reading and navigation skills can turn uncertainty into confidence and make every walk more enjoyable.
Lost & Found is a small-group navigation session designed to teach you essential skills in a relaxed, hands-on way. Over the course of a gentle 4-mile walk, you’ll learn to:
- Read and orientate a map within the landscape
- Recognise your position and navigate confidently
- Use proven navigation techniques to avoid straying off track
- Lead others safely and relocate if needed
In these sessions, there’s no such thing as a wrong turn, every decision is a chance to learn. Maps, often seen as intimidating, become storybooks of adventure and imagination, offering tools to help you explore without fear. And it’s not all work, the walk itself is a beautiful, scenic stroll, designed to make learning enjoyable.
Session Details:
- Small groups (2–5 people)
- Duration: approx 4 hours
- Suitable for all levels — not overly technical
- Fun, practical, confidence-building experience
- Sorry, no dogs
If the scheduled dates don’t suit your availability, or you’d like a private group or family session, please get in touch.

“I had a great navigation session with Malinka yesterday. She has helped me to understand how to read a map and how to use my strength (attention to detail) to navigate the countryside successfully. Highly recommended.”
“I did a lovely walk with the experienced walking guide Malinka as part of the Alton Walking Week. This session was focussed on map reading/navigation and Malinka was a fantastic teacher, guide and great company. She was patient, explained things clearly and allowed us to navigate the group on some short sections whilst she supervised us. I learnt several very useful lessons and will use these on my walks. The walk was very well organised, had wonderful scenery and was timed to perfection. We even managed to avoid the rain and arrived back at the car park just before the forecasted rain arrived. Malinka is highly recommended and I would have no hesitation in reaching out to her again. Thank you!”
