The River Meon flows gently from the chalk downs to the Solent through a valley that has been a place of travel, pilgrimage and settlement for centuries. Today, the Meon Valley is known for its attractive villages, water meadows, crystal clear waters, fishing and surrounding downland scenery, each contributing to the area’s distinct character and sense of place.
This walk explores part of the valley’s course, following the river through a landscape that has shaped local life for generations. Along the way, we will trace the story of St Wilfred, the 7th century bishop whose name remains closely associated with this corner of Hampshire. His journey through the valley provides a historical thread linking many of the places we encounter.
Well-behaved dogs on leads welcome.
This is a linear walk that requires car pooling so please be prepared to offer/receive a lift
