Poetree is a gentle, evening walk celebrating trees and poetry. The walk offers a chance to slow down, connect with nature and enjoy the beauty of Ashford Hangers and the woodlands that have long inspired poets, artists, and walkers alike.

About halfway through our route, we’ll pause at the Poet Stone, a quiet memorial to Edward Thomas, one of the great nature poets of the 20th century, who found deep inspiration in this landscape. We will stop here for a picnic and poetry sharing session. You’re welcome to bring your own poem to read aloud (tree and nature-themed especially), choose from a small curated selection we’ll provide, or simply sit back and enjoy the spoken word on the hillside, over-looking the South Downs.

We’re delighted that Jeremy Mitchell of the Edward Thomas Foundation will be joining us to share some of Thomas’s work and speak about his love of trees and the local area.

After our stop, we’ll complete the circular walk at a relaxed pace, continuing through the woodlands that fuelled so much creative thought.

This is a walk for those who love trees, enjoy poetry, or simply want a peaceful way to spend a summer evening in good company.

Well behaved dogs on leads allowed

REVIEWS

“Rural Strides is a unique walking experience. Routes are thoughtfully planned to highlight the beautiful and varied landscape of the Western Weald in every season, with insights into the local history, geology and nature shared along the way. Malinka is an exceptional leader: her enthusiasm, knowledge and humour bring people together, and her walks are full of interest, laughter and good conversation.” Google Reviews
