This walk was originally part of my Countess and the Crown route. However, because of this summer’s heat, that walk was shortened to just the section between Havant and Emsworth. But this part still stands on its own – both as an interesting walk and as a continuation of the story of the Countess of Salisbury and her family’s link to this area. These walks are about standing where they stood and seeing how the landscape still carries the marks of past centuries.

This linear walk runs from Emsworth through to Walderton, the place where the next chapter in the Pole family will begin. Much of what we pass would have been familiar ground to Margaret and one of her children, whose choices would carry consequences far beyond these quiet paths. For anyone who hasn’t done Countess and the Crown, there will be a recap to give you the context you need.
This walk brings us a step closer to the part of the story that will unfold next year.

With this being a linear walk we will need to park cars at the start/end of the walk, but the driving distance between them is not far.

RURAL STRIDES

Rural Strides is passionate about the rich history and cultural landscape of the Western Weald. Through our engaging guided walks, we bring the land to life. We interpret its stories, uncover its heritage, and reveal the character that makes this corner of the South Downs so special. Along the way, we introduce you to inspiring local businesses, each rooted in the community and landscape we share.

Our aim is simple: to create authentic, memorable experiences that connect you with the place and its people. By the end of a Rural Strides walk, you won’t just have explored the Western Weald, you’ll feel like a local.
