Join Rural Strides for a night walk beneath the Blood Moon.
You don’t need to travel far to find adventure — sometimes it’s waiting just beyond your doorstep. This September, Rural Strides invites you on a unique nighttime walk timed to coincide with a rare total lunar eclipse. As the Moon slips into Earth’s shadow and turns a deep reddish hue, we’ll step into the stillness of the South Downs under the cover of darkness.
But this isn’t just about the sky above. It’s also a chance to leave your comfort zone and explore the woods and Downs after sunset — when our senses come alive in new ways. With no torches, we’ll walk parts of this route in mindful silence, letting the night speak for itself. Our ears, nose and skin will take over, tuning into the scent of the forest floor, the rustle of unseen wildlife, and the cool night air. On the top of the Down we’ll also pause on some ancient tumuli to take in the celestial majesty of the night sky above and time to reflect not only on its beauty but also on our own small place within the vastness of space and time.
Whether you come for the lunar spectacle, the wildlife, or the sense of stillness, this will be a night to remember.
No dogs please on this walk…….or waterproof trousers (their rustling spoils the peace and quiet)
